1934 Ford kit car, as we inherited it. It has run in the past, but needed work and engine upgrades to make this a street-legal hot rod. This picture shows the body off the frame.
The frame was rebuilt and reinforced at a prior shop. The wheels shown are only on for mobility. Larger wheels and tires will be the final product.
Another picture of the frame and the customization needed for the rear axle and front suspension. |
The body is being set on the frame. New body mounts will be fabricated to allow the fiberglass body to sit comfortably on the solid frame without undo stress. |
A view of the body, on its side, as we reinforce the running boards and passenger compartment. We are adding steel reinforcing to the fiberglass body. The steel plates will rest on the frame. |
A view of the trunk, while we are "tubbing" out the rear wheel compartment. Requirement: use 18" wide wheels, but do not protrude outside of the existing body shell. The frame has already been narrowed in the rear to accomodate the wider tires. Now the trunk area is being modified to allow the wider tires. |
A view of the dash, showing the placement of the gauges. |
Test fitting the pieces. Note that the engine compartment side pieces have been "opened up" to accomodate a chrome grill. The grills will be attached from the inside, after the body have been painted. |
Initial test fit of the new motor, a 700+ hp beast. |
Another view of the motor fit. A "cut out" will be needed in the hood to accomodate the blower. |
Fitting the grill and side panels. |
A view of the vehicle after the block sanding has been completed. At this point, the door jambs have already been painted, thus some of the red shows around the doors. |
Into the paint booth, the colors are applied. For this vehicle, House of Colors products were used. Silver metallic base, Gold flake intercoat, and (Kandy) Apple Red for the finish. Plenty of clear coat is applied to finish the paint. |
Painting complete, then several days of "cut & buff", or color sanding and polishing to get the desired effect. It truly looks like a polished apple, ready to eat!! (with a hit of gold underneath). |
Final view of the vehicle the day it was picked up. Note the grills in the sides of the engine compartment, that were installed per customer specifications. A glimpse of the wheels can also be seen. 18" wide tires are mounted on the rear. The frame and the rear trunk area had to be modified to fit these tires and wheels. |
